We live in a world where there is a procedure to be followed. Criminals are sentenced capital punishments for their crimes. We live in a society where even the death penalties aren’t much gruesome. History, however, has it that the people used to focus less on capital punishment, and more in ways that were enough for a hell-like feel. These gross methods were made so that the victim suffers as much and for as long as possible. Let’s dig deep about some of the most brutal ways of human execution.
1. Republican Marriage
Practiced in France, this was the strangest method of execution where both the man and woman were tied together and were thrown into the river to drown.
In this method, prisoners were sent to the battle arena, where they single-handedly had to face the beasts. The prisoners are sent naked and without anything to defend.
Practiced generally in Asia and Europe, this method involved tying the prisoners upside down and then saw them into half starting from the groin. Due to the body was inverted, the brain receives sufficient blood and keeps the person conscious throughout the unbearable pain.
The method involved bulging on heavy weights on the victim. More and more weights were tended to be added until and unless the person fatally dies suffocating.
5. Upright Jerker
It originated in the United States and is still under practice in some parts of Iran. This is very similar to usual hanging but differs in a way that the condemned are lifted upwards, rather than being dropped through a trap door.
6. The Spanish Tickler
A device resembling cat’s pow was used to give severe and deep wounds to the victims. However, sometimes the death happens due to the infection of the wounds.
Flaying is one of the brutal ways, in which a person’s skin was ripped off. This method was practised with a sole aim of spreading fear among the public, as The skin was later pinned at public places.
8. Columbian Necktie
This method of human execution is considered to be one of the most brutal ways and was used heavily in Latin America and Columbia. The process involves slitting throat and pulling out the tongue through this opening. The remaining body was left off as a sign of warning (We spare you the original images).
9. Brazen Bull
This was an inhumane method, where a bull was deliberately made for the sake of fun. The condemned was placed inside the bull and was burnt alive. The nose of the sculpture was designed as to acoustically convert the prisoner’s screams as bull sounds. The act was a source of enjoyment for the onlookers and executioners.
Undoubtedly one of the most brutal ways a human execution can take place. The prisoner is stripped naked, and placed inside a tree’s trunk, with only the hands and head popping out. Milk and honey are then continuously fed until a severe case of diarrhoea develops. Insects attracted by the faeces accumulated then begins to feed from within the skin. The person dies within a day or two due to shock, dehydration, and lack of food.
While many of these brutal ways are not in practice now, few of them, however, have still managed to exist. In some countries though, they believe in having strict laws for gruesome acts like rape, and the criminals accused of such crimes are brutally executed. Whereas for other crimes, the capital punishment follows.
